Trials and tribulations of a man and a 74 Airstream Excella
The Chassis
Posted 12-18-2010 at 06:17 AM by DanielB
The first order of business, and it was too obvious, was the chassis. The existing chassis was rusted out so bad that all of the outriggers on the curb side (and others) has long since rusted off. The main channel curbside just forward of the wheel wells had bent and twisted. Because the shell wasn't attached to anything much on the curb side, when the main rail bent, the shell suffered no damage. Getting the shell off was going to be a little tricky because it was not level or square, but i had to brace it as is and get it up off of the chassis anyway.

How in the world were you able to tow it home without it falling apart on you? I have my eye on a 1958 with frame problems like yours had. However I am scared that once I buy it and have someone tow it home to Dillon it will break up in pieces.

I saw a 1976 Excella 500 posted on E Bay located in Sumter SC. less that $2000.00. My truck will not pull it. Maybe you should check it out.
