Help need info on Trailer use off grid in desert. ( I'm new)

Posted 02-07-2010 at 04:54 PM by GKIRON

Looking to purchase a used airstream trailer to use in southeast AZ, off the grid. Would like to know pros and cons of these units, what to look for & price range. How do these aluminum trailors fare in the desert? Also, solar cababilities. Considering compost toilet. Can anyone share info regarding this kind of usage? Also, maybe you have one to sell?

    Solar Electric for campers.

I have used solar power for my 65 Caravel for several years. I only use a 14 watt self regulating panel to keep my 12 volt system up and operating. However I have installed fairly large home systems which are capable of producing 120/220 volt to power most anything if your billfold is big enough. Tell me what you would like to power and I will give you some clues as to what you need. Your biggest power draw in the AZ dessart will be your AC, I am guessing. I also built a portable unit that I have powered my home construction sites which I have used for something over 15 years. It will power 2400 watts at 120 VAC to power our job site tools. I have only run it out of power a couple of times during this time frame. Be glad to help anyway I can. I am a retired robotics engineer and master electrician. Don.

Just purchased a 2010 16' Bamvi. We don't even have it home yet. I am interested in solar. I was told by the dealer that there was room for only 50w unit on the roof and that it would not be enough to do much good. I know nothing about RV electrial. Any thought you can share would be helpful.
