Selling to Newbies and Airstream Wannabes

Posted 05-07-2010 at 07:10 AM by Mrwaterway

I sold a nice 1972 31ft Excella 500 to a couple that have decided I mislead them. It was a nice coach with new Dometic AC and 3 way Dometic Fridge. The skin was nice and the axles perfectly aligned with excellent rubber. I towed it over 550 miles and delivered it. Now I am being bombarded with all the issues iinvolved with renovating a 72 coach. Has anyone else experienced what I am going through? I believe this couple thought that they could get a "turnkey" Airstream for $5000. When I bought my Ambassador, I had floor rot, mice, Wiring issues and of course the rotten cross sections for the black holding tank. I paid $5000 for mine and after working through the issues-with out complaint to the prior owner-I am very content and a full timers. HAS ANYONE ON THIS FORUM experienced a similar situation?

It is called buyer beware, if it was sold as is, point them to this forums and tell them good luck.

As long as you didn't lie or mislead them on a particular question, you are fine. Vintage trailers are sold as is. They should know better. The trailer is nearly 40 years old, for crying out loud.

Plus, if they'd done some googling around they would have eventually landed right here. Being 550 miles from you, they could have then used the large, front page notice listing dozens of impartial members who could have inspected it for them.

It's always a shame when a buyer is bummed out, but I'm with Mello Mike - if you didn't lie or mislead, they've got nobody to be upset with but themselves.
