Turns out that between the surface rust on the frame and the corrosion / grit in the step pivots the whole thing just needed to be flushed out and worked. It's going to need more TLC 
before it works well.

At this point I think I've looked in all the cabinets and storage spaces. Turned on most of the lights, flipped on the air conditioner, rolled out all the awnings, and opened all the windows. The result is that I now know more things that need fixing. 
Among other things, turns out that the battery charger / converter unit is totally boiling the new deep cycle battery...

and just that small amount made it more difficult to get her turned around and maneuvered into place. Clipped a boulder in the front yard with the back bumper and tore the roadside edge off of it. 
Jane was not impressed. 
$500 mistake there.

Some small amount of rain along the way but nothing good enough to do any leak checking with. Bias ply tires held up the whole way, we put the whammy on the tires by purchasing a spare. If we hadn't mounted that spare I shudder to think how that might have gone.
