Floors Are In!

The floors are finally in! I replaced the entire subfloor with 3/4" sanded plywood and treated the edges and areas where moisture is likely with a wood preservative. Actually, I might treat the whole thing tomorrow. The can doesn't warn against using with adhesives and I think we are going with "click-in-place" floor anyway.

In the pictures attached you can see where I re-skirted the wheel housings since the original flanges were rusted through at the bends. I used a...

Moving Rearward

I'm making progress on the floor replacement, so I figured I ought to get the classic through-the-floor picture before I get too far along.

We are super happy to have restored the original step...only I think folks weren't generally 200# in 1959.

Step Deployed!

Posted 03-09-2014 at 08:40 PM by JimCat2000

I started tearing out the floor between the curved ends and came across the step. Of course, it was rusted in place, I was able to get it out and get it working. I've got a few coats of primer on it now and will be putting it back in place soon. In the meantime, if anyone cares to give me some pointers on fortifying the step, I'd love to hear from you!

Rear Sub-Floor

Call me Miley Cyrus, cuz I spent the weekend grinding...surface rust off of the frame that is. I'm really having a tough time getting the curved parts to fit well and this time, I had some part of a template from the old floor.

Using the wedge wall (discussed previously) I can raise the shell enough so that I am able to slide a single sheet of 3/4 plywood under the exterior shell and floor molding. I knew the wedge wall would raise the shell, but I was pleased to see how precisely...

Nada

Posted 03-06-2014 at 08:44 PM by JimCat2000

We brought the 1959 Caravanner home on Valentines Day and today was the first day that I did not set foot inside of it since. I left the house early to get some things done at work before I headed across the state (FLA) for a funeral. Tomorrow I'll carefully remove and replace the rear flooring!
