2010 Summer Vacation days 9&10-HP Lake, OR

Posted 08-23-2010 at 05:49 PM by 4RXLA

Day 9 was a restful day. After laundry, housecleaning and bathing Buddy, we lazed away the afternoon. The built in vacuum cleaner with 31 foot hose still works and well. Low 80s with a slight breeze and sunny. There are millions of stars in the night sky here. Tomorrow we will hike the property and try to rent a boat to go on the lake. They have great soft serve ice cream here. No pictures today.

Day 10 of our trip began lazily as we slept in, then cooked bacon & eggs for breakfast. By the time we cleaned up from breakfast and showered it was close to noon. The weather was warmer today, about 90 degrees. We started our hike of the property at 12:30 and decided to stop by the marina to see if they rent boats. Sure enough they did so we scrapped the hike and decided to go on the water.

Since I never piloted a boat I got a quick tutorial. On the first 2 boats the motor would not start...I was beginning to think the spirits were telling me something...but the 3rd motor fired up and we set off determined not to shut off the motor! For the first 5 minutes I piloted like Foster Brooks but then got the hang of it. Elena, worried about weight distribution, sat forward to counterbalance my weight as she was sure we would capsize otherwise. We had a nice 2 hour ride accross the lake. There was just enough breeze and mist to keep us cool. Buddy had a good time too and did not seem afraid of the water like he was at Bodega Bay.

In hindsight we could have packed a lunch and made an afternoon of it but we returned to the marina at 2:30 and had a nice lunch at the cafe here. We then walked on the jetty and then we took our customary afternoon nap and will have a late dinner tonite...leftovers as we are now trying to empty the fridge since we are in the final days of our trip.

Tomorrow we hitch up and drive about 100 miles down I-5 to Lake Shasta, where we will camp for 2 nights before returning home on Friday. Not sure what we will see there..maybe the dam or maybe some caves/caverns. I'm taking the shorter but steeper route to I-5. The manager here said if I have good trailer brakes I will have no problem. I'm going to see how 33 year old disc brakes work with a new electric actuator tomorrow.
