Almost there-campsites reserved

I'm a deadline person. So, booking campsites for June lights a fire under us to get this project done. Everything is going back together beautifully. Thanks to a handy and inexpensive pneumatic rivet gun (Fastenal-$35) The woodwork (which I refinished) is fitting right back in. Just a few small pieces of wood needed replacing--all rotted.

Putting the bathroom back together is challenging. It's just hard to get around in that small space. New sink fixture and shower fixture installed...

Painting success--removed awning for replacement

Posted 01-14-2011 at 09:51 AM by toaster68

Before our break, I primed the inside skins--bottom ones removed, and upper intact. Yesterday, I decided to paint the upper skins even though they may need to be touched up after everything is put back in. Exterior latex paint rolled on beautifully and looks great. We just couldn't salvage the original. I tried to clean it, but it was so stained, there was no hope.

We removed the awning--actually, it removed itself after the protective end fabric tore and the roller spun out of...

Back on Track

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted anything. We had to stop our restoration project last March as our 8 year old got seriously ill. Gladly, he is doing better and now that the holidays are over, and now that I've booked campsites for 2011, it's time to get going.

The frame is done and the plywood subfloor is in. We've started reattaching our shell to the floor. We've hired a helper to get things going, so I'm hoping the flooring can be put in soon. We're hiring a flooring...

painting frame, walls, etc.

Posted 02-17-2010 at 01:24 PM by toaster68

We've started painting the frame to stop the rust. We're grateful it's in good shape--no repairs are needed. The interior lower skins were removed and I cleaned them with ammonia--that actually worked better than anything. I started priming the upper skins inside and primed the lower skins. They were still stained and not looking good, so we decided to paint . The bathroom plastic fixtures were a light yellow color, but faded and stained. I found that Krylon Fusion paint (especially...

work, work, work

Posted 02-05-2010 at 09:44 AM by toaster68

We've been working so much on the trailer this week, we haven't had time to catch up. Hubby figured out how to brace the shell with jacks and now have 4 floor pieces cut and ready to go in. Bathroom piece is the hardest. He used c-clamps, vice grips and a ratchet strap to pull the sides of the shell in even with the frame. Worked like a charm.

All the window and door gaskets are done. I started scrubbing the inside walls. We've decided to paint. So many stains, so dirty looking....
