Design a camper around this-- operation finish wall covering removal!

Posted 08-23-2009 at 07:40 PM by bookstax (Design a camper around this-- the restoration saga of a 1975 24-foot Argosy)

Weather this weekend was quite conducive to working in the Argosy for pretty much the whole two days. I lost part of Saturday so I could drive my dad to pick up his camper from the dealer about an hour away. In return, I got to look at one of the new Shasta vintage-style trailers on the lot and concluded that my 34-year-old Argosy is in better shape!

Our two goals for this weekend were removal of wall covering and to start with removal of the orange trim from the dinette and bathroom...

Design a camper around this-- man is it hot today!

Posted 08-09-2009 at 07:25 PM by bookstax (Design a camper around this-- the restoration saga of a 1975 24-foot Argosy)

Work today on the "new" camper was a little abbreviated because it was SO HOT! We worked on windows to replace the old window support kits. This involved learning how to use the pop rivet gun. Now that we know that, there is no end to what we can do!

We've tentatively picked out fabrics for the new cushions and beds. Our plan was to go for a "seventies"...

Design a camper around this-- part 3, the real beginning!

Posted 08-01-2009 at 07:40 PM by bookstax (Design a camper around this-- the restoration saga of a 1975 24-foot Argosy)

On Wednesday, we received the call from Jackson Center we'd been waiting for, the work on our Argosy was completed and she was ready to be picked up. Of course, we had to settled up our a large labor/material bill first. Working long distance with Airstream was actually pretty easy. Chris Burch was responsive to questions and concerns. He was honest with the diagnosis of two issues that they uncovered during their inspection of the camper. We ended up getting all the plumbing upgraded. That...

Design a camper around this, part 2

Posted 07-11-2009 at 03:27 PM by bookstax (Design a camper around this-- the restoration saga of a 1975 24-foot Argosy)

Our first "trip" with our "new" Argosy was to pull it from its home where it was functioning as a driveway-based man cave. Since we live in Ohio, we decided to take it to the Mother Ship in Jackson Center. We left her key and a list of instructions in one of her outdoor compartments and bid her farewell. That's where she is now...

My husband and I were perfectly happy with our nice 17-foot Casita when we saw an eBay listing for an early 1960's Avion trailer for sale in our neighborhood. We looked at it and decided it wasn't for us. But, the urge to keep looking stuck with us. After many days of searching on Craigslist and eBay, we found our new baby, er, folly, a 24-foot 1975 Argosy, twin bed, dinette in front beauty that was living in Indianapolis.
