Beautiful location, lots of things to do, close to the ocean.

Cons:

Can be foggy all day in summer, can be crowded, weekends are almost always full year round.

We love this park. It was remodeled back in 2005 and all the sites were repaved. AT&T WIFI service is available at the park too. If you currently have AT&T DSL at home, you can log in for free with your user account name and password. The campground is partially wooded with Monterey Pines, Monterey Cypress and Eucalyptus trees. There are numerous treeless sites too. There are restooms and coin-op showers onsite as well.
There is a nice restaurant at the marina across the street. You can also rent kayaks at the marina. The Morro Bay estuary is a great place to kayak, offering excellent bird watching, or paddle over to the sand spit to visit the ocean. Morro Bay town is nice to visit as well, with downtown shops and shops along the waterfront Embarcadero. Lots of seafood restaurants, beaches, surfing, fishing and a great place for photography.

CA Streamer said it all. We love to go here for a quick camping trip, even though it's only about 20 mins. from our house. It seems a world away.

One more comment. If you stay more than one night, be sure to drive into downtown San Luis Obispo (SLO town). It has a REAL downtown with vibrant shops and lots of good restaurants and a well-preserved mission.

Close to town, but not too close

Cons:

Marine layer in summer, but who cares, fills up fast in summer, but where in CA doesn't?

We too love this campground, only 25 miles from home, but seemingly a continent away. Go in the fall, little wind, no marine layer, e-z first come first serve camping for boondockers, full hook ups are pretty tough. To tag onto Road Geezer's comment about SLO; if you don't mind crowds and dig farmer's markets, check out SLO's on Thursday nights year-round...If you find a more vibrant and happ'nin farmer's market, with more food, more music and entertainment, and more fresh veggies to roast while your campin', we'll buy you glass of fine central coast wine next time we see you on the road. I digress...Morro Bay State Park is truly wonderful...check it out.
