Description:

Loft Mountain Campground is located within Shenandoah National Park at Milepost 79 along the scenic Skyline Drive. Entry near Swift Run Gap (33). $15 entry fee to park unless you have a pass see website for details.
Rangers present programs in the ampitheater. Dump station, potable water, laundry, pay showers, flush toilets, campstore with groceries and supplies in campground. Nearby is a NP wayside (mile 79.5) with fuel, lunch counter, and gift store.

Loft Mountain Campground in Shenandoah National Park is boondocking, however, flush toilets and pay showers are available in the campground. Also a campstore, laundry, and nearby wayside (mile 79.5) with gift shop, lunch counter, and fuel (no diesel). Scenic 1.3 mile Frazier discovery trail just outside the campground, has one of the best views of the park, its like being in a postcard. The Appalachian Trail encircles the campground (see map). The reservation website does not describe the pull through sites very well. There are some pull throughs that have trees in bad positions for a trailer 25 or over. If I had only one chance to visit Shenandoah, I'd probably stay at Big Meadows campground instead (mile 51.3), just because there are more trails, waterfalls, ranger led activities, closer walk to showers, etc. However, this is a great place if you plan multiple visits to this park or have a longer period of time to get around.

The Shenandoah Valley Unit just completed a Rally here. It is beautiful, I prefer Loft to Big Meadows as the sites are more private. If you are in the Shenandoah National Park it is a must!
