Pros: North loop has wide sites, friendly atmosphere, popular area
Cons: No reservations, dusty dirt road into campground, no playground

Boondocking on Lake Huron. The sites on the north loop will make Airstreamers happiest. The south loop has sites that are nice for 20' and lower. Two hosts and well patrolled by the DNR and state police, family atmosphere but laid back.Dogs can walk on the beach, many kids on bikes. Many campsites have access to Lake Huron, it is a rocky shore except near the picnic area.Near the city of Alpena.Close to gas and food in Ossineke.Very friendly area. Not a state park with strictly enforced rules, for example, there were dogs walking without leashes, people using chainsaws to cut firewood, dogs on the beach. On the other hand, it was quiet at night, the hosts took care to point out that it is a family campground and loud parties are not tolerated.Good cell reception, good radio reception NPR out of Central MI University, great for launching canoes and kayaks.Nice for swimming, walking on the beach, birding. If you get there midweek or at least by Fri am you can have your pick of great sites.Handpump at the water spigots.
