Description: Another wonderful Arizona campground...Pinegrove Campground is in the Coconino National Forest (Mormon Lake District) in northern Arizona. It is located about 20 miles southeast of Flagstaff on Lake Mary Road (which is well-marked from I-17 going south from Flagstaff). There is a string of lakes along this road...Lower Lake Mary (which was dry in June 07), Upper Lake Mary (with water and popular with locals for fishing, swimming and water skiiing), and Mormon Lake, which was also dry (June 07). There are several National Forest campgrounds in the area, but Pinegrove is the most developed and the most pleasant, and is the only one at which you can make reservations. It is a few miles west of Lake Mary Road between Upper Lake Mary and Mormon Lake. The roads are paved, as are the pads...there are quite a few pull-throughs. There are no hook-ups but water is available and there is a dump station, flush toilets and coin-operated showers. Many of the sites have cement pads and patios, and well-defined leveled tent pads. Each has a fire ring and BBQ grill and the sites are well maintained and racked between occupations. Hosts are on site. About half the sites are reservable, with the remainder being first come first served. The fee as of June 07 is $16 per night. It's in a nice stand of Ponderosa Pine with a lot of shade and pleasant views. The link will take you to the Mormon Lake District campground page which will detail all the campgrounds in the area. (There are also many boondocking opportunities in this area for those who would prefer that.) Enjoy!

Pros: Clean, well-maintained, good shade
Cons:

We returned for another couple of nights (2 Sep 08)...it's still a great park...and still as pleasant as it was the first time we were there... We'll go back when we're in the area... This time we could have fires in the fire pits (unlike our first visit). This is a great time of year in this area...very green with warm days and cool nights...and some rain...
