water wetter

last post i posted that nappa had removed the crc product from their shelves . the manager didnt know why, was directed by corp hq. yesterday i was in auto zone and they had a shelf full. im confused with this one. the super cool that autozone was selling wasnt compatiable with anti freeze. the crc product will mix with anti freeze. i had planned to flush my system after the jackson center rally and put my anti freeze back in before winter. i picked up a jug to put in with the anti freeze fill.
both product works i got a 20 degree drop with the super cool and alan has reported the same with the crc product. so look at the zone for the crc water wetter. lol

So are you saying that water wetter was compatible with anti-freeze and that you got a 20 degree drop in operating temp from it??

I've been using the Redline SuperCool w/ WaterWetter in my daily driver. Never had a problem. There's some superb tech info on their website at www.redlineoil.com

Here in Arizona, I use 25% antifreeze and Water Wetter all year round...

Do you use it in your Tahoe? If so, I believe your Tahoe also had Dexcool coolant filled at the factory.

Do you still have the extended coolant in your truck and use it with Water Wetter?

If you do use it as above, can you give me some data as to how much cooler the truck ran?

Thanks,

Eric

it worked for me if i could get the gas problem resolved the silver weenie will be good to go. lol

Is that stuff call tow cool (the CRC brand)? I bought some of it two weeks ago at NAPA. I had a over heat problem but I also had otther issues that were resolved at the same time.

I tried the Autozone stuff that was a ProBlend product. It didn't cure my cooling problem but like I said, I had other issues. I ended up replacing a radiator to cure. I could not run my A/C in stop and go traffic at all.

When I put the new radiator in I went with a 60% water mix and the CRC stuff. I also put on fan clutch #3. Overheat problem gone but I'm not a good canidate to comment on the product alone.

One thing I did notice is the Stuff autozone sells recomends running less Antifreeze. You need to understand Antifreeze does not have as much cooling capacity as straight water. That right there is going to help with your cooling without the product.

You can tell the Guy from AZ because he's running a REAL lean mix to deal with that heat. Where I live we may see Zero a couple times a year but not much lower so I went with 60/40 that is good down to -22F. No reason fro me to need -40f that a 50/50 mix is good for. If I was still having overheat issues I would lean out a little more.

Now don't run straight water (for those reading that may not know). Antifreeze does do other important things. It carries lubricants for the water pump and conditoners to help prevent corrosion. Also don't use tap water in your radiator. Use DISTILLED water only. Tap water is full of minerals that can overcome the corossion preventatives in the antifreez. If you have hard water stains on your home shower you have A LOT of minerals in the water.

What I currently see: engine speeds around 2400 rpm my temp needle drops well below the 195 mark (what my thermostat is rated) after the repairs. Hwy with A/C on I run right at 200-205 at 3k on tach. With A/C off I run 190-195 depending on grade. Stop and go with A/C 200-210 on how long I'm stopped. Stop and go no a/c 190-195.

Now My Sub has FI so it runs a higher temp thermostat. If it ran too cool the air pump kicks back in and it goes Open loop. They way it's acting I have no doubt if I had a 180 thermostat I would be seeing 180 no A/C and 190 with A/C.

Silvertwinkie, I've still got the orange crap in the Tahoe. That's my wife's vehicle - my daily driver is a 1976 Olds Cutlass

I'm planning to flush the orange crap out of the Tahoe before it turns to mud. That orange stuff is like the Kiss of Death for your cooling system....

tow col is the crc product. and the problend is probably the stuff i have in the radiator now. auto zone is going to crc after they sell off the pro blend. pro blend cost twice as much as the crc.
like i said alan in atlanta has posted on the crc product. he should post a response soon. lol

Just put CRC in mine

I just put the CRC (Tow Kool) in a 50/50 mix in the 345 after a Prestone flush and a tube leak was repaired. It's the same core as before so maybe this is a good comparison. I was runing 185 - 190 at idle, 215 - 220 level and 225+ on climbs.

I just got everything back together and ran at idle in the driveway at 170. I'll report back on highway speed and climbs once I've taken her out on a good road test. Alan's results inspired me to add the CRC as well.

Yea, I have heard a bunch of issues with it. If you maintain it before it's recommended change intervals, you should have no problems with it (not to mention a good flushing). Another issue was that GM was placing clay tabs in the coolant to fend off possible leaks. The clay tabs were one of the main causes of the solidification issuess. GM TSBs I believe since stopped calling for the tabs to be used. Nonetheless, there is a class action lawsuit against GM due to Dexcool (made by Texaco) pertaining to repair costs.

I have 2 cars that are 1996s. It was the first year Dexcool went mainstream in all GM cars. Both cars have been very well maintained and I have only had my heater core on one go south that was replaced under warranty.

BTW, love the Hurst Cutlass!

The CRCstuff I used was called NAPA coolant conditioner or something like that. I went with a 50% distilled water to antifreeze mix, and the additive. Seems to be working great. Ran way cool over the 90 degree days on the trip to Charleston, SC I did in July..

It works!

I just got back from our first campground camping trip and am happy to report I saw an average 20 degree drop in operating temps the entire way with the CRC added. Pulled a 1.5 mile hill at 65 mph and it just got over 205 degrees at the top. Normal temps while level at 65 - 70mph were 190 - 195 degrees. OAT was about 72 today. Now I can run at 70 mph without worrying about the temp gauge....what a relief.
