I filled up there a few times with a 100' hose. There was no issue. I don't recall needing the water bandit, I do carry one. You need hose clamps both ends if you are going to use it regularly.

Interesting, but yes there was water in the HW tank the whole time. I also shut the pump off like you, but I was more concerned there was watering going where it shouldn't be going.
