2019 Nest - shower mixer valve

How on earth did they install the mixer valve on a Nest? There is no access except from the shower side and the valve cant be removed from there? Has anyone gone thru this?

Yes, of course but that strip seems to invite the mildew very rapidly. Wondering if anyone has found anything especially effective at cleaning it and/or preventing it.
