I would replace that converter now while everything is nicely exposed. It's heavy and noisy and a new one will be much smaller. You may not even need to move it then.

I have an '82 and it was originally only gas but the PO added a "HotRod" which seems to work well (one of the UL approved types n2916s mentioned). I'm not sure how much life my tank has left in it...

I should add that I also towed my 31' with a F250 diesel (albeit a low mileage 1994). Either of the new F150s were vastly better than it was.
