I've taken a heat gun to the old sealant with a dull metal putty knife, that works pretty well. I've also used a propane torch. It will catch on fire a little, but you can easily get it off then.....

My heater valve has corroded through. I can't seem to find a replacement that uses the pull wire at Autozone, etc. I don't care about using an exact replacement if someone has an updated solution....
