Mine did not quit completely. It actually would not stop running. the winding sorted to the motor case.
The blower wheel came off pretty easily. I may have used liquid wrench on it to get it moving.

Anytime you are repairing a crack, it is a good idea to drill a small hole (1/8 or so) in the leading edge of the crack.
The hole will keep it from spreading further.
