I gave up using that kind of gasket when I broke the glass. Instead used some other soft (hardening) material (the one like dough). Wasn't easy neither but solved.

You can use bondo, that is what we are using right now to fill the holes and seems really hard and hood. You need to fill the holes then sand it and paint. That's all.
