Airstream Registry
Airstream Name Coastalview
Year 1978
Make Airstream
Model Ambassador
Length 28'
Options Nothing more than what it originally came with
1978 Airstream Ambassador
Overview Bought this trailer sight unseen on ebay in the summer of 2002.
As of the summer 2011, all the original equipment is working with no problems.
This unit has the vac-assist disc brakes that work fantastic!
Exterior
Worn clear coat with plenty of wally rally rashes

Interior
Tossed the mid gaucho for an inner sprung futon and replaced the front gaucho with one from an 83 model in 2005
Wow newer stuff
Thanks Doorgunner!
Replaced front carpet with a piece of remnant for free in 2011
No need to start spending money on this unit now, run whatcha brung.

Customization
Nothing planned, it works the way it is including the 8 track player-groovy man

Systems and Running Gear
An awning would be nice but to purchase one would exceed the value of the trailer!

Other Information
Were not worried to take this trailer beyond where the pavement ends, a few more scratches and dents are hard to notice between the ones we bought it with already!

This trailer has been great to us and has cost us less each year to maintain than what one would pay to maintain a lawn mower.
New tires fall of 2010. Goodyear marathons made in the USA..... we still make things?

Airstream built this era of trailer right even thou they are not collectable from this era

Tow Vehicle
1978 Airstream Ambassador Tow Vehicle
Our tow vehicle is one awesome truck! Its a 1997 Ford F-250 Powerstroke crewcab 4WD shortbed. This was the last year for the classic boxy design and before Ford changed things for the worse. Its a California truck, so split shot injectors plus adding a computer chip, downpipe and intake enhancements that unleash this beast. Prior to the mandated sulfur removal in diesel fuel, we happily towed at 65mph equaling 18mpg.
Today we experience 12 mpg. That's OK, with California's strict smog requirements now for diesel vehicles, the 97 model years and older are exempt!
So we get to keep the beast untamed!
