Winterizing in DFW area

Talk about wishful thinking!

Any way... looking forward to resuming our heat interrupted camping in the AS this fall and wondering just how long we can stretch the fall season.

Can any of you in the DFW area remember approximately when you winterized last year?

our Safari has heated tanks so that might extend our season a bit, but we are storing in outdoor covered storage without power access, so at some point we will have to winterize.

Thanks

Average first freeze around here is about the third week in November. Keep an eye on the weatherman, though. The Airstream plumbing knows nothing about averages. Texas weather varies a lot.

This is what I have done on every Airstream we have owned....after the trip and the water has been drained from all of the tanks, take a gallon or two of the pink RV antifreeze and pump through the water lines.....this serves two purposes 1) it keeps the lines and seals WET so they don't dry up and 2) the lines are already freeze protected just in case old man winter comes too sudden.

does anyone winterize, then flush the system and go camping again in case the weather turns nice again? or is the winterization too much of a hassle to do that?

winterizing

Over the winter we tend to camp more than during the summer around here due to heat and will run antifreeze thru the water pump, shower, bath and sink faucets...enough to fill the p-traps with it. We'll do that several times throughout the winter after each campout since it's hard to predict when a hard freeze comes through. I keep several gallons of the pink stuff in the trailer and a separate hose will connector so that i quickly disconnect the input line from the water pump, connect the line drawing from the jug of antifreeze and then turn on the water pump.

Thanks Tin. That's the information I was looking for.

Tin

what do you do with the used AF when you drain it from the AS before using it again?

Why I always liked the idea of using a case of cheap vodka to winterize.
Somewhere there's a party runnin' low . . . .

Well Im now guessing, to answer my own question, that when you reconnect city water, it will push the AF into the grey and or black tank for future dumping.

Am very tempted to follow Tin's methodology because after this weekend's great time at Sam Rayburn, we're really not ready to end the camping season just yet.
