Grey tank inlet help?

I have a question for the drainage experts. I have seen drains going into the side wall of the grey tank. I thought you had to enter on the top of the tank. Is entering on the side wall acceptable?

Here is my situation: I'm trying to use a grey tank from VTS that is only 4" tall, and I'm locating it between the bays in the chassis. I'm 6' 5" so my shower need to be as low as possible. I can use a trap in the next bay, but the drain entry point into the grey tank will be 1 1/2" from the top of the tank (on the sidewall).

I would appreciate all the input anyone has to offer.

Thanks

This probably isn't the answer, but you might have other options using this P-trap replacement. Google "Hepvo waterless valve". I haven't tried one but plan to when my renovation gets to that point. Perhaps someone else has used this. Happy plumbing.
