Roof seal
Recently, while working on my A/S I noticed that there's sealing compound all around the vents, antenna on the roof. Does anyone have knowledge as to what brand of sealing material this is and, what kind of life expectancy does this material normally have? Can you just apply the new over the old or what?

Vulcem was the original sealant used and is still used today. Par-Bond Grey can also be used. SikaFlex is also used in the new Airstreams to seal the panels. Alcoa Gutter seal can be used to repair panel seams.

Do not use any silicon based products. They will chemicaly react with the aluminum and turn a real nasty grey black and they do not last as long.

I would remove as much as I could. It will make for a much more professional seal. Be sure to mask of along the area you are repairing with blue painters masking tape. It will make cleanup much easier.

Thanks for the info..As you've given me some choices, I'll do some research on each. I'm just thing of the areas around places like the exhaust vents. From what I can see, it looks like it's gray and, it has a spread outward from the object being sealed.
Again, thanks. BTW , I just came back from Vt., where I visited with
