2010 Vintage Restoration Rally
The Four Corners Unit of the WBCCI is pleased to announce the much anticipated Third Annual Vintage Restoration Rally.

This is a rally for anyone interested in learning all of the ins and outs of restoring a vintage trailer, or just seeing how these trailers are put together.

This rally is part seminar (classroom) and part hands-on and does not require you to bring your trailer. Anticipated topics are as follows:

· Complete overview of trailer restoration – with lots of photos to see
· Rivet and skin skills taught by Aircraft experts
· Cabinet building skills
· Zolatone painting (this alone will be worth the trip)
· Electrical – basic and high-tech wiring
· Axle replacement
· Door rebuilding/repair
· Solar – including converters/inverters, surge protection and batteries

In addition to the above – and keeping in mind that some of you will have attended previously – we are adding and/or focusing on these additional topics. These will be covered more in depth than in previous years:
· More interior restoration – electrical, plumbing, insulation
· Charging system install
· Gray and black tank installation
· Furniture install
· Window removal and rebuild

These skills are not taught by hobbyists – they are taught by professionals who do this for a living.

We will have trailers at the rally that we’ll be working on and have tons and tons of tools around so you can get hands on experience.

Area 63 Productions will be back this year – a major force in Airstream restoration on the west coast. Master Tech RV will also be in attendance – they do premier solar installations.

We are also proud and excited to announce a very special guest – Pee Wee Schwamborn. Pee Wee’s mother was Wally Byam’s cousin and started the WBCCI for Wally. Pee Wee attended many early rallies with his Mom and Wally and has an almost photographic memory of it all.

Check out last year’s rally at and the 2008 rally at to see this is a must attend event – this is the only rally who’s focus is Airstream restoration taught by professionals – you will see and learn far more than you would think possible.

So, you want details…? Ok – the rally will be held the second weekend in June (10-13) at Enchanted Trails RV Park and Trading Post in Albuquerque, NM (this is an old Route 66 trading post – see for park info). We are holding the rally later this year for better weather (less wind), plus the pool will be open for the kids! Our rally fee is $50 per person or $85 for a couple, and $100 for the family plus a screaming deal on Enchanted Trails’ campsites of just $15 per night (thank you Vicki!!).

So what do you get for your 50/85/100 bucks?

· A great learning experience
· A catered meal on Saturday night (so you don’t have to worry about cooking after working hard all day)
· A continental breakfast on Sunday morning (so you won’t have to worry about cooking after staying up late on Saturday night).

Please e-mail us at and we will forward you a sign up sheet with instructions.

Don’t hesitate – contact us now. We look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque!

Too cool! I hope I get to make it to this one.

looking forward to another great rally! I highly recommend this event for the content & the cameraderie!

I heard the Organizing Committee is guaranteeing that the desert winds will be at or below only 5 knots this time!

ts8501 02-08-2010 01:13 PM

I highly recommend this rally. I attended with my wife last year ('09). I would attend again this year, as the agenda is even better than last, and that is hard to top! I unfortunately cannot attend this year, as I have a schedule conflict. If you are on the fence to attend, get off that fence and head to Albuquerque in June!

eubank 02-08-2010 02:09 PM

Kind of doubtful that we'll be able to make it down even for a day during that period. Anything during "season" has to be looked at pretty carefully, and we've already committed ourselves to attend VAC in Salida, come hell or high water or a full park.

Ken J 02-08-2010 08:29 PM

Sorry to hear that you can't make it - hopefully next year!

Ken J 02-08-2010 08:37 PM

Yes - we have been assurred that that particular weekends weather is expected to be perfect! :)

The pool will be open - so if you get too hot working on trailers, just jump in!

Joseph - did your trailer get dull all of a sudden? And did it age a bit? From your avatar it looks like it did... :)

jm2 02-08-2010 10:28 PM

Actually Ken, the trailer in the avatar is the '76 Sovereign that was sold back in April, and that I delivered to the buyer in NY State in May.

Here's a neat little piece about the buyer, a fellow named Dennison Lee. radical shift: economist into farmer/forager « The Improvised Life

I'll have to see if he'll come to the VRR, too? He's quite the character, and we like him a lot!

I knew that - just pulling your leg

wow - very cool - the ol trailer looks great!

Hope he can make it

Registrations are coming in pretty steady - just as an fyi, we have a 70 unit limit.

This is a great opportunity to see how your trailer is put together or a great opportunity for those who have vintage units they want to restore to learn from professionals who do this for a living.....

Ken J 02-15-2010 09:09 PM

Yea sure you have pictures of last years rally - actually Joseph documented the whole rally - maybe we could all just watch them and party- - - - :) :)

Just kidding - we are planning some really great stuff - if anyone has anything they are working on, or just dreaming of, just let us know.

The presenters are hard a work putting together a great program.

And yes, Joseph, we could use your help - I'll put you on the committee.

Also, if anyone has anything they are burning to share, we will put you to work as a presenter...

Area 63 Productions will again be present for this event, with hands on workshops, how-to's, q&a, and perhaps seminars. We will be bringing one of our trailers for this event, and present real time, hands on, scrape your knuckles type seminars. Depending on our work flow at the studio, we might be bringing back the 1958 Flying Cloud we re-skinned at last years Rally. It now has new insulation, new perimeter belly skins, and all the windows are already rebuild, some with new glass. If we do brig it, then the hands-on will be DC wiring, AC wiring, and plumbing, including holding tanks.
Stay tuned to this thread for updates on this event.

Ken J:
Hi Ken, We spend time in Texas, Colorado and New Mexico. We were thinking the 4 Corners Unit might be the right one for us. We are rebuilding our 1984 310 Ltd AS M/H and think I could find out some much needed info from the Rally. We would like to attend, so let us know.
