New Member - Thinking of getting a classic

I'm new at this and really thinking of getting a classic Airstream Mobile Home. Here's one I found on Craig's List that I'm interested in -

1982 airstream excella 28ft motorhome 49k original miles all original

What do you think? What should I look out for? What should I ask? What should I anticipate are future problems? What will my maintenance be? What is a fair price?

See, so many questions.

That's a nice looking Motor Home and with the low miles the price seems very reasonable. We have talked about getting a MH someday, but not right now. The only thing I see with this one is the rear bath. Our trailer is a rear bath just like this and we would prefer to go with a mid bath / rear bed. That's just personal choice.

Yes, I agree with you. I would like a rear bedroom as well. But it is a good price. I just wonder what the hidden costs will be, since money is tight.

Well you would assume off the start a motorhome is easy, get in start it up and drive away, but it isn't always that way. Of course the main thing you want to check is the fridge, ac's and all electrical components are working and the generator runs and is able to power these, which you probably know, but take a peek at your airbags on the rear axle... and should have the air lift bags in the front coil as well and make sure they seem to be in good shape and the compressor is working right. I have an 89 classic so im not real familar with the one you are looking at, but if everything is in good working order maintenace will simply be changing oil and basically the same as a car, but from most of the people on here and my personal experience you usually run into a few more snags with these classics than a regular camper but with a little patience and work nothing that can't be overcome for the looks you get pulling in with one.
