Goose Island State Park, Texas

Does anyone have experience with this park? I am looking for a campground near Aransas National Wildlife Refuge around new years. Many thanks :D

We've been there a couple of times. There are sites on the beach with cabanas, and there are sites back in the wooded area of the park. Each have their apeal. The one thing I would tell you is to take LOTS of mosquito spray.

Thanks Steve. Are the skeeters an issue this time of year? Thanks for the warning. So, do you think the park would make a good base for seeing the refuge?

Yes, the park would make an excellent base camp, and I personally prefer the interior wooded areas. Lots of big beautiful oak trees. The beach is sandy, salty, and the water is very shallow...not good for swimming or fishing, IMHO. The mosquitoes are bad any time of year they've had any rain at all.

There are several really good seafood restaurants in downtown Fulton. Also, don't miss seeing the Fulton Mansion, a state historical site.

Stinky beach at Goose Island

It lives up to its name. If you stay on the waterfront side the breeze keeps the mosquitos at bay...(so to speak)

Not surprised you're moving. We drove over to Fulton Beach yesterday for Xmas Eve dinner with friends (and saw a brown Chevy p-u, with [2] bikes on the roof, pulling a late model 23' A/S westbound towards Corpus; thought of you), and we both think Goose Island is a great place. On our list for this spring as we start to use trailer for short, local trips. I would use it as you suggest.
