Know what this is?

Can anyone point me in a direction here? I have one of these just under my regular door handle (56 Safari) and also one of these on the inside of the door in the same position. It looks like a basic handle but I cannot find pics of any anywhere. Any suggestion on what to do with it?

1956Safari,
I think it is something to hold the door open. There will be a "male" piece on the door that will fit in the fixture in your picture keeping the door in the open position. Something like this...

You may be onto something. I see VTS carries this

Door handle?

Still does not make sense since this one on the inside of the door would not conect anywhere. I still thinkk it may be a knob. In this photo you can see the inside one.

Is the outside piece directly opposite the inside piece? Does the hole go through the door and align with the other piece? Are the two pieces identical?

Yes the hole goes through to the other side. I guess it was another door knob?

It could be the remnants of a deadbolt lock. Look on the door frame and see if there is a cut out, where the bolt would have slid from the door into the frame. Good luck with the mystery!:wally:

1956 Safari,
I would have to concur with centennial man. I did not realize that it went from the outside of the door all the way through to the inside. Sorry to run you on a wild goose chase.

Yes that's it. I will gladly add another lock on this suicide door! Now I need to see if I can find one to fill the ugly hole. Thanks guys!
