Garage Rental?

I need to pound a few dents out of the Safari, and in order to do it I have to pull a substantial amount of the interior.

My garage (shop) isn't big enough to do it inside, or to store the interior for that matter! So I'm looking at a short term rental.

I found a great guy about a mile from my house with a empty 4,000 s.f. garage for rent. He is looking for a long term deal at $1,000 per month:blink: , but will do a short term month to month for around $400. This still is more than I had in mind..... I really only need about 800 s.f. of covered area.

Lorain, my city, is a very industrial city that has many vacant garages. Anybody have expereince doing this? What is a fair price? Any advice?

A great deal?

I guess that you live in a WAY different area than I. 1000 dollars a month for a garage? Here you could build one for that much. Do like I suggested to another here on the list....search out a vacant hangar at a local airport. They are way cheaper, big and most have all the utilities needed. Lots of aluminum experienced help available, security and great folks (usually). Remember airports are for airplanes and you will be a welcome "guest."

P.S. Did you say pound out the dents?

I need a refresher course..HOW do you pound out the dents in Aluminum?

DanB 03-13-2008 10:50 AM

You should see the dents! :)

Seriously, to be more precise, I need to remove the interior panels and smoothly and delicatley massage the bare aluminum carefully with my palms....

or I might just pound them out.

We are renting a 12x40 boat/rv storage bay for $175/month. This includes an outlet to power the converter (or run lights) I don't know if they would allow me to work on the rig there but I suspect that if I kept the door closed, they wouldn't mind.

Thanks, Richard. I knew I was getting close but I didn't notice that this was the one.

If it's hard to find a place nearby that's big enough, $400 a month doesn't sound too bad if you'll only be there a month or two. I say go for it.

I would try the local airport - especially if you are near an old military base that is converted to other uses. I know a local technical college took over most of the old Air strip in Waco and L-3 also has a presence there. The Technical College has a lot of hangar space available that is too small for L-3 and additionally have a course of study in RV repair. Who'd have thought?
But, if you can afford the $400 and the location is convenient, why not? Realizing you may be there several months longer than you initially anticipate.

When you find a place make sure you can service the trailer there as well. Some facilities are storage only. The fairgrounds in the county where I keep my AS is storage only.

For what it is worth I pay $100/year and the landlord can use my genreator when I am not working on the AS. But then my storage is in the middle of a rural county and 50 miles from where I live. The price a market fixes is simply what they can get for it in a given amount of time. Check you local papers and the net for rentals in your area. Consider renting all or part of a pole barn on a farm.
