water in sump

Hi I have airstream with 454 engine after the fan belt snapped and having problems starting I finally started it and the engine fired and loaded all the water from radiater into engine it was not mixed with oil it was seperate is it teminal or is there a way that oil can get into the engine i.e. busted pipe if it was head gasket surely oil would have emousified am new to these engines

I don't know about the 454, but I had a sump take on water from a leaking water pump housing gasket on a Land Rover. If you were lucky enough to shut it down right away maybe you're ok. Maybe.

Wayne,

If you shut down right away you did not overheat your engine . If you did not you may have warped the heads or blew out the head gasket.
The second problem coud be a craked head from the heat.
The third problem could be a bad casket on the water pump.
The solution is flush out your motor, change you oil filter, and take to the shop where they can test your radiator to see if it has carbon monoxite in the water.
Good luck
