Cabinet wood
Hello! We started the restoring on the Argosy. And as you all know we have hit a few road blocks. A little more work the farther you get in to it. Anyway the overhead cabinets are vinyl covered plywood i think. Some of the vinyl is tore off ,its a very thin wood. What wood can you use to replace this and where do you get it ? It's the thickness of paneling and would be easy to replace there just a rectangle cut of wood in a metal frame. That's the problem the metal frame has a groove that the wood slides in. Paneling would work but it has the lines cut in it. I don't think i want that look. What's a good fix?

Look in the Yellow pages or online for harwood plywwoods. It's made in everything from simple pine to the most exotic hardwoods. You could go with Birch,Oak, Maple , Walnut, Hickory just to name a few. Sold in many thicknesses, in plainsawn, flitch cut, bookmatched etc.

Been there, done that
Hi Blondie - we have a '75 22' argy, front door style.

The trailer was in great condition but had the wall paper peeling off the upper cabinet doors.

1) We removed the doors by drilling out the rivets
2) The metal frame around the doors was also removed.
3) The doors are actually cored
4) We removed the wallpaper & cleaned the surface
5) A piece of post formable arborite, grade A3, was used for resurfacing. This is a thinner form of arborite (formica) that fit under the frame of the door. We cut to the size of each door. We actually didn't have to glue down, as the frame gave a tight fit.
6) Frame reinstalled
7) Door pop riveted back in place
8) Stand back & admire your work!

I have pictures & will post later
