Longer Battery Cables - Replace or Splice?
It's time to replace the group 24 battery on my 2005 16' CCD. I'd like to go to a group 27, but the existing cables don't reach. Does anyone have experience or advice, with replacing the cables vs. splicing with butt connectors and heat shrink? Seems like I'm trading off the risk of creating a leak (if I dig the cables out of the factory sealing where they go through the floor) against creating a poor electrical connection (loose crimp, corrosion, etc). Any advice?

Replace the cables. Splicing them will work. However if you get any corrosion in the connection you will loose capacity. REplace them and be trouble free.

I'd replace the cables. I replaced one of mine last month. It took about an hour and a lot of reaching up under the couch on my trailer to disconnect it and reconnect the cable at that location. For me, I had to replace it because one cable had been cut off too short by someone. I had to take the positive cable off each time that I wanted to check the water level on one of the batteries.

If you are replacing all of your cables, I'm sure it will likely take you longer.

I'd replace them if they were mine. It might be time to add new rubber covers also.
