New 28" Safari Slide-out

I just got a new 2003 Airstream brochure and it shows a floor plan for a 28' Safari Slide-out. Has anyone seen one of these? Is the interior in the new, light colored wood laminate? Any thoughts on Airstream's slide out mechanisms and their reliability?

I like the thought of the extra room and the layout looks good in a smaller package than the 30'Classic, but I do have a strong desire to move up to the quality interior of the Classic models.

Safari vs new Intl AS interior

I think the current Safari interior looks cheap, especially the upper cabinet fronts. I would have a hard time being content with a Safari.

OTOH, I love the modern interior in my International AS. It is pretty and it is practical. No corners to bump into and the smooth contours make it feel more spacious.

I hope A/S usesthe International AS interior in some larger models. IMHO, They would be real winners.

I was at the dealer in Irvine, CA last week. I picked up a brochure and looked at the new models on the lot. They show several interesting things...

First, the brochure shows a 16' and 28' CCD International, "coming soon".

Next, on the lot there was a 25' Safari (25-C) with the International AS interior. It was beautiful! I do not like the heavy paneled oak cabinets in the newer Classic models or last year's Safaris - too heavy, traditional, and chunky for the streamline styling, in my not-so-humble, but generally correct, opinion... <G>

The salesman said that all the Safaris will be moving towards the more contemporary interiors... Sounds like good news to me.

Mea culpa

What I should have said above was that I do not like the 2002 and earlier Safari upper cabinets. It has been pointed out to me by a friend that the 2003 Safaris have new upper cabinet fronts and they are quite attractive.

I love the idea of a Safari with the AS interior. I have said from the start that would be a winner.
