Hood latch on diesel pusher
This morning I went to pull on hood release latch & it was super easy to pull, as if it were disconnected; it was🤢[emoji30]. And oh my, I see absolutely no easy way to get to the latch? Itís a Ď95 36í diesel pusher. I have a buddy with a body shop...does anyone have any ideas or experience? Thank you very much.

If anyone has a photo of a latch that they can send, I would super appreciate it. Airstream factory was zero help🤢. They only keep records for ten years and have no shame in sharing that. That just seems jacked up.

Welcome to airstream!

There are very few diesel pushers on here, but maybe one will chime in.

Wish I could help, but I've no idea what it is you're looking at.

Coathanger? Small flexible person?

Iíve been through the same. I was able to get it unlatched with a slim Jim.

I replaced it by modifying Schlage door bolt. Iíll try to get some pictures.

I also posted the fix somewhere here.

And you can open it with a card if you use a bolt without the anti jimmy latch.

For clarification, the striker is mounted on the hood and the latch/bolt is mounted on the bottom frame. I removed those spring loaded stops as well as the spring struts. Replaced them with the single gas strut on the top center. Got all that crap out of the way.

Itís been awhile but I seem to recall that I might have used a hacksaw blade clamped in my sawzall to cut the bolt to open the hood. I believe I used a couple bent pieced of thin stainless sheet metal as guards so the blade didnít mess up the aluminum.

I have a request in from a buddy to take some pictures of his original latch.

Lousy design!

Glad to see Tony and family are doing well. I hope you enjoy their visit as much as we did.

Is yours the aluminum body 95 pusher or fiberglass? Mine is the 97 fiberglass diesel and my front hood has same latch assembly as used on GM vehicles. So far its never broken but that front compartment leaks and its caused problems with my battery cables rusting.

I'll be glad to help out if you run into other problems. Just got my furnace operating again and doing some smaller repairs as well before winter.

Than you guys! Yes, aluminum. And once I figure out how to post photos, I’ll do so. I’m going to work with it this weekend; hacksaw blade is an ingenious idea! I found two bolts yesterday that look as if they might hold the latch to the body; I’m going to need a few different kind of tools and a little contortion to get to them through the grill slats but I’ve got my fingers crossed. We are going to Norte Dame and Pittsburgh (from KC) in a few weeks so I need to get her buttoned up.

Photos are beautiful .

Thank you, Danny

All fixed[emoji1360][emoji120][emoji8]. The body guyís ďpaddleĒ opened up; we reattached cable and remedied how it had come undone to begin with. Super appreciate your help, guys.[emoji120][emoji8]
