Goodyear Marathon Tires?

Hello,

We recently received our 2017 FC and are looking forward to heading out!

Has anyone had problems with Goodyear Marathon st225 75r15 load range d?

Any thoughts.... if or when I should consider up grading to a LT tire or even moving from a 15" wheel to a 16" wheel. Or are the Marathons just fine?

Thanks for any input!

Oh my... wish you hadn't asked that question. ;):D

Do a search here. This may be the most discussed subject ever on AirForums.

I saw the title and thought maybe it was an April fool's thing..... Good luck, you may want to turn off auto notifications..

Goodyear Marathon Tires?

I had constant leaks of 1-2 psi per week on the GYMs on my 16 FC 27 FB.

Unfortunately (or fortunately :) ) I picked up a nail in a non-repairable part of the sidewall in Austin TX last year. We limped into San Antonio and ordered 5 new Michelin LTs and had them installed by Discount Tire.

I've had zero problems with the Michelins. No air loss at all, and I like not having the 65 mph speed restriction of the GYMs (still tow at 64 mph tho).

The max weight capacity of the Michelins derated for Trailer application is a little less than the ST GYMs, but I've weighed the trailer and am within margin.

I believe they just came out with the new Defender LTX but I'm unfamiliar with it's details.

Good luck with your search, there are many many threads of the pluses and minuses of GYM tires here, as well as no shortage of opinions. If it were me, I would replace them at the earliest opportunity.

Rich

Who knew?

I'll just check with Walt at J&K Tire. 60 years in business.
Didn't mean to stir the nest.....

Do not buy Chinese tires of any brand unless Walt is willing to follow you and change tires as necessary...

Goodyear has a new Endurance ST tire out -- the jury has not come in yet:

PS -- The following thread is probably the leading recent one on switching to 16" Michelins:

They actually do just fine. Nails go through every brand of tire. If you have money to spend, then buy Maxxis or Michelins.

Why does Airstream use those . . . . . . Oh never mind. :dizzy:

...because they are black, round and CHEAP. And they really only care if they are cheap and not so much about the first two criteria.

Couldn't resist

Here we go again.....

Crazycanucks 04-04-2017 06:25 PM

We went with Michelin LTX Defender up front....one less thing to worry about 🤡

I just picked up a 2017 25 FC and they came with Goodyear Endurance. Not sure if AS is making the switch. I've read some bad reviews on here about the marathons so when I took delivery of the AS and noticed it didn't have marathons on there, I was pleasantly surprised.

n2916s 04-04-2017 06:45 PM

Makes sense -- I can't imagine Goodyear would produce two lines of ST tires. I've never had a problem with my Marathons so I will stick with the brand when the current set times out next Fall.

As far as 14-inch tires on the 16' Sport, the Marathons are NOT the cheapest. That would be the Towmax or Promax, aka: "Blowmax". The Endurance is not offered in C range; while the Marathon is.

I've thought about using Endurance D rated tires (trailer is 3500 lbs) but don't want it to ride rough and/or too bouncy.

Goodyear reported that they are no loner making the Marathon tire - all trailer tires have been changed over to the Endurance line.
