Reconfiguring baggage hatch door

I am cross posting from here about redoing a baggage hatch door to change from a "J" hinge (on the top or bottom) to a piano hinge along the side of the door.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, Hank

What kind of hinge are you planning on using? I would recommend this in aluminum

Thanks. That is exactly what I ordered.

I intend to install a c channel behind the hatch frame to which the piano hinge would attach. Any concerns about adequate support?

That should do it

Thanks for the info - I plan on doing the same. What size pin diameter would you recommend? Also, unfinished or anodized?
Thanks,
Greg

3/32 to 1/8 bare. I also prefer the Mil Spec hinge but it may be cost prohibitive for most people. It is an extruded hinge vs rolled hinge, extruded is far superior to rolled.

I am finished (for now) with the new hinge installation. See here.
