31' 1969 sovereign

Hello all,

I am new to the RV world and I'm I'm the middle of my search for a Airstream. I've been considering this for about 2 years or more. The right time has come and I'm able to make a purchase.

I really like the idea if owning an older model Airstream. I am very much capable of restoring one & I actually want to go this route. It is difficult, as I'm sure many of you know, to find these beauties. Eventually I'd like to purchase something in the 18- 22 foot range, staying in the vintage realm, 50's model. However, a larger one would work best at this time. This brings me to my find.

I've located a 31' sovereign land yacht. I'm scheduled to go look at it Saturday morning. The condition I see from the pictures would indicate a complete gut of the interior. I realize the work involved. The exterior is somewhat in decent condition. The owner is using it to stay in while he logs for timber. He has taken out a window and installed a woodstove & the chimney pipe is run through where the window was located. There are also missing access panels.

With this information, I'm trying to figure out if this is a safe purchase.
is this a desirable AS?
if I restore it, is it possible to recover the investment for a future purchase?
If I restore it, should I try to stay as close to original as possible?
what should I pay for something like this?

Thank you for reading & I hope to own a Airstream soon.

Sometimes you need to bump your thread to get it back on top in case people missed it. And your title may be be catching their attention.

Double the amount of time and money you expect to invest and do a through inspection. If it isn't the right one another will come along.

Thanks for replying to my post. After much thought, I have decided not to purchase the '69 sovereign. I will continue my search.

Did you ever buy that 1969?
