Odd window
We finally picked up our 2014 20' Flying Cloud! This unit has the floor plan with the "L" shaped galley and bathroom at the back. Hubby has been going through the whole thing and all the manuals with a fine tooth comb, and discovered something very odd.

There is a window over the kitchen sink, at the very back of the unit. This window has latches at the bottom, and a screen, but no hardware to allow you to push the window open. So, trying to figure out how to open it, he walked outside and sort of pried the window open. The whole thing (the glass) fell out into his hands - luckily! This window has no hinges at the top, and is only held in by a sort of lip at the top and the latches.

So, what exactly is this? Did the factory just fail to complete the window installation? We can't believe it's supposed to be this way. And, why make a window with latches and a screen, but then make no way to open it without it falling out??

The other question, is it safe to tow this way? I'd hate to get somewhere only to find out that the window was gone.

I'm obviously going to call the factory on Monday, but in the meantime, do any of you know what is going on??

That would be an escape window. Are the latches red? That would confirm it...

Congratulations, Sallye, on your 20 FC. We picked up ours last Oct and have now used it for about eight weekend trips and one week-long trip. We've loved every minute of it. Hope you enjoy yours as much as we have enjoyed ours!

Now, for that pesky window. It seems to have been designed that way. We think of it as a design flaw. The bathroom wall next to the window seems too close to allow the window to have the arms to open. We brought it up with our dealer/mechanic (where we store ours). He talked to AS about it and AS told him that they have no plans to make it a stay-open window. It's the same on the 2015s. According to AS, the window is too small and is not positioned to be an egress window, so they are not putting in arms. Still doesn't make sense to me. You would think they could create something that would hold it open.

There area few threads in here where people have come up with creative ways to hold it open. Check out the On Cloud 9 for one idea. We still haven't created anything that will hold it open, but use one of these ideas.

Let us know what you find out from AS.

Happy travels!!

Thank you!
Well, it's definitely not an escape window - it's much too small for that and it a difficult location (you'd have to climb over the kitchen faucet.) And there are no red latches.

I wonder what they were thinking!?!? And if you have a window that you can only open by removing it, then for Pete's sake - put something in the manual!

We'll have to rig something, to keep it from falling out at least. That window, and the front ones, create the only ability to move air from end to end through the unit. All of the rest of the windows that open at all are in the front end of the unit.
