Today is the day.

Today is the day I've looked forward to all winter long.
My friend Sue and I will begin dismantling my 67 Caravel to do a subfloor replacement.
We are starting by removing the belly skin to assess the frame damage/rot etc...
I thought this would be the best place to start.
I had the skin off under the bathroom a couple years ago and the frame did not look too bad. Since then the floor has developed a *ridge* from curb side to streetside. From battery area to to fridge area. Pretty sure theres broken outriggers.
Hopefully this goes well and there are no dead snakes or you will hear the screams no matter where you are in America. ;-)
Have fun, I know we will!

And laughter too, it sounds likeva tough job, but take time for the funny things too. I am with u on the snakes. One moved into our barn and I refuse to go near.

Better a dead snake than a live one though!

Be careful we just saw our first garter snake yesterday in the garden...Think snakes on a plane or an Airstream!!!

Good luck, take pix. I'd be working outside right now except its raining. Hope you don't find anything too bad.

Belly skin is off!!! Only one dead mouse husk and nary a snake to be had.
The skins are swept off, rolled up and ready to be used as patterns upon reassembling.
We donned respirators and clothes we never care to see again.
There is only one crossmember rotted out and 2 maybe 3 outriggers that will get replaced.
It was a good day for sure.
When I get on my computer I will try to post some pictures.

Cool will be looking forward to the pictures and ya gotta love a caravel! Take a lot of pictures it helps when it is time to put her back together. Did you take any of the wheel well before belly pan removal?

I got lots of pictures of the wheel well area before starting. There sure was a lot going on in that particular area.

I had axle damage on the curb side and while putting the belly pan on I noticed a gap or where gap will be and I did not remember a gap when I took her apart. She is almost ready to flip back over for the last time and put the new axle on! Welcome and thanks for the reply.

This is a spare tire holder that was half-arse welded to the A frame behind the propane tanks. Also a couple of crown nuts welded on too. Not sure what their purpose was. And some sway control deals. Not sure what they are really called.
If I could figure our how to post more than one picture I would.

Dingo Girl 04-23-2014 05:18 PM

Oops. Guess I cant even post one picture.

Dingo Girl 04-23-2014 05:25 PM

I was able to add pictures in my gallery. Not to the thread.

Dingo Girl 04-23-2014 05:29 PM

Well they are not in the gallery either. Not sure where they went. Sorry.

reinergirl 04-23-2014 05:33 PM
