Look at the relationship of the window to the top of the rack. Ideally the straps want to be as close to level to the top of the rack as possible to insure 100% of the load is transmitted to the sill at right angle to the sill.

Another option, that most would not accept, would be to install a angle beam connected to 2 ribs across the back of the trailer. It would almost require this beam to be BOLTED through the body. Slots in this beam would accept the straps. Not an aesthetic approach but one that should work.

I made the rack from a cheap one I bought at Wal Mart, have not seen it in some time so it may not be available now. The vertical sections and the bike bars are what came from WM. I cut pieces of 2x6 and the lower metal tubes to mount to the bumper. This allows me to just drop the rake in when I want to use it.

The secret to the rack is the strapping at the top. I made 2 clips to screw into the window sill, still allowing the window to open. Through these clips I run 2 straps to the top bar of the rack and tighten just to the point that they take the rotational load the bikes produce when hung off the rack.

My bumper, a 91 has not problem supporting the vertical load. It is the rotational component about the bumper that is the problem. The straps transfer that load to the window sill.

Look at the bumper first. See if you can stand on it without a problem. Many of the newer trailer do not have a rear window that has a sill with the strength to support the straps.

    Good Luck
