I removed the black water tank in my '72 Cayo C-11 and had some cracks "welded" and weak areas reinforced on it a couple of years ago. Your pictured tank looks to be is exactly the same as the one I have, and I suspect I've been where you are now.
BTW: Given the effort it took to get to the tank, not to mention the need to completely replace and reinforce the wood in the back, I took the opportunity to fix the unit's fiberglass cowling, add a manual ballvalve to the toilet's water source, and replace all the PVC drain pipes (that serve as gray water reservoir as well) with larger diameter pipe (added a bit more holding volume). In short, I've rebuilt the entire rear end of my unit, including tapping into the bathroom's hot and cold water lines in order to install a functional outdoor hot/cold water shower. Things have been working pretty well since that time, and perhaps there's some of the things I learned along the way that can help as you continue with the present challenge.
You can send me a PM if you wish, and much luck with the project-at-hand.
