Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I haven't been on the forum for a while and didn't get any notification you responded. I grew up in Windsor and Enfield and owned a condo in Simsbury which I sold over 3 years ago and then started living mobile. Please look me up if you come to St. Augustine

    Hi Silverfoxrae,
Looks as if you have a nice interesting project on your hands. I see from some posts that your live in Florida or visit St. Augustine? We live 45 minutes west of St. Augustine on the St John's River. We currently have almost completed the restoration of our 18' Airstream. Just a few more things to do like remove the original propane heater. In that space (the wall on the left coming in the door) can be used to enlarge the broom closet and put a magazine/book/map rack. Any storage is good storage.
Good luck with your project. Looks like lots of fun. We may look to purchase another one to restore and sell in the future.

    Hey Rae,

Question....does your 47 have the original front and rear plexiglas windows in it? Mine were replaced with 1/4" lexan and I think because they are not molded to the shape of the curve they want to spring back. This causes the caulk material to begin to leak over time. I was wondering what the original window thickness was. I believe it was a plexiglas window. Would you know what material was used and the thickness? Thanks for you time. Tom

    Hey Silverfoxrae,
Have you seen the thread on the shuttle launch in Feb? Jan and I are going, this will be our first rally! I see you will be at the rally in the panhandle in a tent, good luck with temps. We were to go but family coming in from CT for the weekend. Look forward to meeting some time here or CT!

    Hi Silverfoxrae,

I live in WV, so am not Johnny on the Spot down there (my gator wrasslin' plan just didn't work out), but I'll help you online all I can.

My trailer needed some work too: I'veput in a new fridge, toilet, water heater, a/c, and went over all the mechanicals. Rewired the harness, and tore out the old carpeting. Preparing to install a new Intellipower coverter to replace my old one which will convert it to 50amp; also am going to build a trundle bed for under the front couch, and have oak laminate flooring to install. I may go ahead and redo all the plumbing this spring while I'm at it. Oh yeah, I put in a new Moen faucet. At any rate, I've fixed a lot of stuff, so have climbed a lot of the learning curve. Be glad to help you restore your beauty however I can.

    take care!

    Jim

It looks like you're connected to both St. Augustine and Lyme, CT. I'm originally from CT. I'm staying at Ocean Grove campground on the island.

Sure looks like you guys have a project on your hands. We are fortunate that our interior is in very good condition and we will keep it as it is, very original. We will change out the carpeting for laminate oak to match the wood interior. The exterior in good, just needs protection from the elements. Repair to the clearcoat etc.

Do you think that you will make it to the rally in Sarasota in Feb. If so we would look forward to meeting. We do not belong to WBCCI but we were told we could go as an Airstream owner. We will be making that deceision during the rally. lets be it touch, if not in FL maybe in CT in the Spring on our way from Milford to the Mohegan Sun!!

Looks like a good example to begin with. What direction are you going with the resto? If you want to go original I have an extra kitchen from a '47 or'48 Liner. It came with my '39 Clipper. I had not thought of getting rid of it rather just to keep if I case I ran into a trailer that needed it. Food for thought.
My trailer is complete with all the light fixtures, stove, kitchen, tongue(which was broken off), and the nameplates. It needs to be completely redone but is a good start.
    Talk soon, Andy.

How complete is your trailer? Do you have additional photos to post? I am currently working on fixing a '49 Limited frame that is broke. So that should give me guidance for the other pipe frame trailers we own. This will be a big project for sure as the rear end cap will need to be completely rebuilt. Cross that bridge when I get there! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions I will help as I can.

So I had to say goodbye to the 1947 Liner. It wasn't easy and I am still upset about it, BUT it obviously wasn't in the cards....
So, I went on the hunt again and after a few attempts, I was steered by one forum member toward another and found a new-to-me gem. I am now the proud owner of a 1956 (registered 1957) Overlander 26'. She is need of a full, shell-off frame replacement, but the nice part of having to start from the beginning, is that everything can be updated and...

Well, after four months of the run around with the dealer, I have decided to back out and get my money back. Sad, but I have always had things work easy when they're supposed to. The poor airstream suffers in this case, like an old discarded dog. But I can't waste more time struggling along- and driving everyone around me insane. So, I am back to the hunt. Wish me luck!
