Pulling up to our home in San Jose last Friday night about 8:30, 10,549.6 miles was the reading on our trip odometer. It’s Sunday night, and we’re still not completely moved back in. Every once and a while, one of us remembers, “rats, it’s still in Iggy.”
This was a trip of a lifetime, an opportunity granted to few, and for which Bobbie and I are very grateful. Overall impressions? We have many. Here are some.

Last Friday, October 11th, we left Mackinaw City turned north across the Straits bridge and started westward across Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Route 2 took us by Lake Superior and on to Duluth where we bedded down in a Walmart parking lot for the night.
It seemed so far north, almost like we should be looking out for polar bears, northern lights or something. In reality we were about as far north as Portland, OR. What we did see though, were glorious Fall colors. Maples,...

LIVING IMPRESSIONISM
I've never studied art, nor have I ever taken a course in art appreciation. I regret that void. However, I have been drawn to classic impressionist paintings for reasons I'll touch on later. On occasion Bobbie and I have been fortunate enough to actually see a number of French masterpieces up close and personal. So, it was after we returned from a short excursion to Mackinac Island on Lake Huron this evening that I was trying to figure out why I so enjoyed...

ONE REALLY NICE TOURIST TRAP
The most northeasterly point on our itinerary was to be Niagara Falls--a "bucket list" destination. We almost missed it for the lamest of reasons.
That morning the helpful receptionist at a local KOA on Grand Island marked the route on a good map mentioning that the Rainbow Bridge was closest to the Falls; travel time looked to be about 15 minutes in mid morning traffic. We had been told the Canadian side had a much better...
