Sorry for the late reply, haven't been on the forums lately, playing to much golf. Can you do that? Play "to much golf" I don't know. Replacing the entire backing plate and brake assemblies is a good idea and it is pretty fool proof. All you need is the brake diameter and any supplier of trailer brakes should be able to obtain the proper assembly if they don't already have them in stock. Be sure to have the brake drums checked out as well for excessive wear and it's a good time to have the wheel bearings repacked since everything has to come off anyway. You will like your new brakes. The old ones that came with the trailer used round magnets that are hard to find and expensive. I learned my lesson the hard way replacing magnets that failed and then having the brakes on one axle fail on a trip and have to replace everything on the road. The new brakes with oval magnets are a lot more efficient and the trailer stops much better. Good luck, hope to see you on the road.
