This "FCU Cool Colorado Boondocking Rally" is planned to be a bit adventurous, perhaps along the lines of what Wally Byam might have done. Since it is the middle of the summer, I wanted a high elevation for the cool, clean air and great mountain views. The boondocking site chosen is at 10,600' elevation and is 26 miles down a gravel/dirt road. This should ensure that we will have the place to ourselves. See photo posted in this thread,

Sorry about the lack of news about this outing. Larry and I had been waiting on snow melt and road work before deciding on the exact location.
The latest information that I have is that snow is still blocking access to the boondocking site from Hwy 160 via Park Creek Rd/NF-380. However, we can access the boondocking site from Hwy 17 via NF-250. I have been told that NF-250 from Hwy 17 via Platoro is open with some wash board areas, a few narrow blind curves (may sound the horn for a warning with limited distance/view) and some areas of loose rock (small) between Platoro and our camp area.
We are planning on having a potluck dinner on the arrival night, Fri. July 4. We will bring potato salad, fried chicken, (or some other meat entree) and wine. Hope someone will cover salad, vegetables, desert, etc.
Please bring all the usual, i.e. card tables, chairs, candles, eating utensils, binoculars, camera, bug repellent, jacket/sweaters, etc. There is a stream nearby for those of you who are fishermen.
Looks like 6 or 7 people had expressed interest. Please email me at
airstream25@gmail.com if you still plan to attend and I will sent you a map and my cell # via return email.
