Rusty, I don't have them off yet but I will try to get them off this week or next. I haven't even touched the trailer yet this season. Want to get the arms off for you soon and I will send you a messages when I have them off. The trick is to get the tension off the recoil spring and then to remove the arms from the awning. I'll let you know when that has been accomplished. Hopefully it won't be qall that difficult. I think you can get the umbilical cable for the trailer from InlandRV.com and also from VintageTrailerSupply.com. Do you still have the connector? It should be a 7 pin round pin connector that connects the trailer to your tow vehicle. You can also purchase a new one of those from Airstream thru a dealer. You have a dealer in Des Moines area as I passed by it when I drove to your house last spring. As far as the 12 volt D/C system it is separate wiring from that of the 110 volt A/C system. Did you by chance take photos of the old wiring harness before you removed it? The old wire was mostly aluminum wires and should be replaced to prevent shorting and fires inside the walls from overheated aluminum wire connections failing. I have not rewired my trailer yet as my interior is in pretty good condition. I do know if you do a search here on the forums or on the Airstream Vintage Trailer website for wiring harness schematics I am sure you will find what you need to get the wiring re-set to all the running lights and brakelights for your exterior lights. The interior lights only run on 12 volt D/C as well so a wiring diagram would be your best bet. I know someone on the forums could help you with one if you cannot find one by doing a search. Do you have an owners manual for your trailer? If not I have one and canmake copies of it for you. It has a wiring guide/diagram in it. Let me know. Ed

I was wondering also if you have been able to remove the canopy arms and would you be willing to trade the arms for the furnace and step. I would bring it to you this time and pick up the arms at the same time. Also the furnace looks in great shape, you weren't kidding in the quality of what airstream put in to their campers.

Hi Ed,
I was wondering how much you know about wiring the trailer lights up and how to do it? I am starting from scratch. Do I need to have a 12 volt system to run lights on the outside for traveling? I think I do but I don't have the first clue how to do it. I know I need a new wiring harness from the truck to the camper, then what? I have some of the lights bought and I am using LED's for all outside identification lights, breaklights, and clearance lights. I am also thinking of using the lock-tite product to remove the surface rust on the frame. It says it will seel it from corosion, I like this idea. Have you gotten time to work on your camper yet? I took a day over Laborday weekend and my son and I removed the rest of the floor, insulstion or I should say all the rats nest, birds nest and what ever else had decided to live in the floor of the camper for the last 40 years. I am getting excited about working on this project. I would like to get it ready so I can work on it in the winter this year, but that involves getting the frame sealed, electric in the floor, sealing the body, new wheel wells, Insulating the whole floor area with sprayfoam and putting the floor back in. I am looking for floor plans and measurements for ideas on how to build what the wife and I want for our camper lifestyle. The forum said I had a new message from you but I haven't found it in my message box yet.

Hi Ed,
I have the furnace out and it won't take long for me to get the step off. The only problem is the sides of the brace arms have a pin that sticks into the frame with a built up edge on the back side. I don't know if I can get it off with out cutting the pins off. I can't send the sides with the steps since it is part of the frame of the trailer. I am wondering if we can trade the furnace for the canopy arms and I will come and get them so you don't have to travel this time? I have the entire floor tore out now and getting ready to treat the frame with a product from Lock-tite that takes care of rust and seals the metal so it won't rust.

the other ting was the furnace from the camper. I finally got back to work in February and since then I have had 4 weekends off and very little time to work on my own camper. I'm in no hurry right now but would like to get those arms before winter. I am planning to work on the camper this weekend so I hope to have more done. I am working for a company now that owns Thermo-King and I can get stuff at price plus ten percent. I hope to purchase my airconditioner through them.

Rusty, I still have them. They are still installed on the trailer. (I know... I'm really behind on working on the trailer.) The trip to Wisconsin was great! I really enjoyed working up there and am ready to go back this fall. In the interim I was in Chicago for three weeks and was laid off from that job on July 3rd. Since then I've been busy with lawn and garden and other home chores. Did you ever get the step assembly off your trailer for me? I know we talked about another part that you were going to keep for me but I can't think of it right now. All I know was it was insde your trailer. I am going to try to get the awning off the trailer soon and will keep you informed on the progress. How soon are you going to be ready for it? Let me know. Ed & Carol

I haven't been on the forum for a long time it seems. I was wondering if you still had those awning arms and brackets for my 67 airstream? If you do what do you want for them. I hope you are able to use the parts you came and got, I was glad to get them out of the drive way (Mary). DId you have a good time in Wisconsin? You'll have to tell me how your summer has been, I have been working 6-7 days a week and finally got this week end off, whew!!! Well let me know what you need for those arms and maybe if I get a free week end the wife and I can drive over and pick those up.
