Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but we are in Long Beach Washington for the week long Washington State International Kite Festival and have only taken an occasional look at the forum and didn't see your comment.

Don't know if bad axles will cause the wheel house covers to break at the screws, but would not be surprised if it did. The axles were bad on our '83, so I replaced them with new axles. The old ones were 2,800 lb, I replaced them with 3,500 lb with 32 degree down angle. Have more ground clearance, and an no longer worried about overloading the trailer.

    Hello Jim,
I just bought an 1983 27 ft. Excella and I am in the process of fixing it up a little.
It was in good condition as far as I could tell but the more I inspect it the more repairs I see it needs. I noticed that the inside wheels covers (under the single beds) are broken around all the screw heads. I am woundering if this could have been caused by bad axles. I hope to be able to ask you other stuff about the trailer until the service manual I ordered comes in.
    Thanks, Greg C.
