Hey there Cosmos, I am sorry but I did not realize I had messages out there from you. This site is good but I find it a little difficult to navigate. I post a message and can not even go find where it is posted. Still making progress but all inside at this point. Like you doing new that could go back to original if needed. I have posted a few new pictures out there. Next phase is upholstery for my new 5 inch foam.. I LOVE the edges of your counters and have been looking to do the same. I love the look of your baby. She is a beauty.

Tank, one more thing. If you have any clear coat left, you will need to remove it to polish. I did this on the upper half using paint stripper and wood scrapers. I left the clearcoat on the lower half and simply polished it with nu-finish polish. Finish buff both kinds of polish with a microfiber cloth.

Then reseal the seams and rivets. (I have an unconventional sealing method, too).

    Hi Tank family,

Thank you for your kind words. Our Caravel started out pretty rough and still has it's battle scars. Yours will come along, too.

The polish job was quick and cheap. I used Mothers Aluminum Polish from the local Autozone store and some thin towels from the dollar store. You could be done in two weekends if you do it all yourself. It gives a near mirror finish. The Nuvite and cyclo method gives a blinding mirror finish which is nice but too much trouble for me. You can pick up with nuvite after the Mothers polish if you want more shine but I bet you will be more than happy with the Mothers polish.

I've done several things to our trailer that are not typical. But always with the rule that the non-typical can be put back to original without too much trouble. If you would like to look at my picture log it is at Bill's Web Page of Cool Stuff and click on the Airstream picture. Send me more questions

My 65 Caravel may never look as good as yours but considering where I "saved" it from it has come a long way. Found it in the woods in a GA deer camp.. The final step in most projects is the exterior polish. Did you do yours yourself or have someone do it? Birmingham is plenty close if you know of someone who could polish mine.. Thanks
