The world of medicine is a fairly rough and tumble way to make a living. If you are set on providing clinical services go for it but consider your other options when looking at the costs. There are roles that are similar to an MD like DO and DNP. They are given the same standing as the MD. You can also create a step kind of career path. Look into the PA training in TX. I think there is at least one in TX. Once you obtain your PA license you can work your way through medical school or work on a PhD. A friend of mine had a family and did just that. He was older than the other med school students but had an easy time in the class settings and in all of the clinical and hospital training. Research can also be somewhat combat oriented but if you take your time and find a school that values research you might have a decent career. There are other options but the above is a fairly good place to start.
