The end of the rainbow is silver

OK folks... It's true.
Really.
What glitters is not only gold.
Aluminum has a shine too!
I am going to be up to my ears in rivets.
An Overlander has become my lucky charm!

:c lap::cla p: can anyone tell I'm EXCITED??

Rae

honestly-- I would love to post photos. BUT it POURED down as soon as I was thinking of getting the camera. There were some major thunderstorms coming through the mountains and even a TORNADO watch-- freaked me out. I wasn't going to take the camera out in that. So, we all went to dinner instead--away from the storms. And there was this:

That must be Rae's Airstream Beacon. There's a pot'o aluminum at the end of it!

Can't wait to see it Rae. Is it a California whale-tail?

Thanks, all!!! I just received a few texted photos to my phone. I'm trying to download and will post as soon as I can. It's an Ohio trailer that was built in the end of 1956. It has 13 panel ends both front & rear. It's a tandem axel unit and has all of it's windows and door. The interior is basically all there. Everything is shop-worn as this trailer has some history. Basically the road and use has kicked it's little tin butt. It's going to need a shell-off restoration. I will more than likely build a new frame entirely, and figure out new wheels. I will need to find some outside lights- the old round ones at the rear are pretty much toast, and I'm not certain what was in the front, but I'm not too worried. The body is in great shape overall. A few scrapes and a couple sharp crease lines from something. A tiny puncture in one crease- about a half inch- thinking I will have to do a custom patch on that. Maybe a band-aid? :-)
Windows are there, but of course will need to be all taken apart and re-gasketed, etc, and then re riveted together. There's some loose rivets --hey it's an old trailer!! LOL... I have a few loose rivets too-- and I'm not old yet.
Anyway-- I have a stove (missing many internal components- but I 'll figure something out there), a Marvel fridge that supposedly works!, A few odds and ends parts-- like real deal baby moons-- so so pshyched about them! Hardware, light shades.. very groovy. I will be able to use the cabinetry for templates for new stuff--unless I want to salvage whats there- I can... just not sure yet what I'm going to do for wood-- if the birch/maple is what I want or if it needs to be something else for contrast or interest. It has the typical O. layout- sitting area up forward-- might do a wrap around- or maybe leave more portable-- there's a cabinet under the window. Then the double sink and stove on one side, the fridge and closets on the other. Then twin beds with the alley in the middle. Rear bath with stainless shower stall and wall. I think the only things not there is a toilet? and stove parts. I love this trailer. I am very honored and excited to own it. I am thinking I may even name her after the original owner-- I'm not sure yet. Want to get more of the story and see where it takes me..
Basically I am very very thrilled. A little bit in shock- seems so unbelieveable.. I now just need to arrange a flat bed transport to CT- where I will be able to put her inside and lift the shell off and do what needs to be done!! I will be sure to document everything and I will be sure also to pester the heck out of everyone with questions.. perhaps even some begging for help.. maybe even some bribery to have some hands-on help. I'm so HAPPY :-)

Rae

I think it is LOVELY, and you're going to have so much fun getting it ready to travel in. I especially love the pleaty things in the rear.

Rae,

I followed the rainbow as I was told, it is an aluminum treasure! Can't wait to see it up close. Maybe this Summer. Sorry I missed this thread at it's beginning.

Hi Snow! Away we go...

After a very long haul, she finally arrives at my house! Now the real fun begins. As soon as I can get her inside the big shop, the real work will start, but for now I'll begin with taking apart the interior. I am going to attempt to attach photos from my phone, but if I am unsuccessful, I will post them as soon as I download, etc.
