Hi Rae, Looks like another fun project! Any local heating or sheet metal shop can bend up straight C channel. The curved pieces in my 54 were just 3" long segments:http://www.airforums.com/forums/f228...r-45125-6.html post #75. I used an L shaped channel to make the curved sections. This was pretty easy to do. I haven't found anybody that makes these preformed.
Enjoy your project!
Doug

Second half of the interior now removed and she's looking empty!
Parts being transported to an indoor shop space...
Parts in the shop space. They will get set up as if they were inside the Airstream, and we will re-fabricate them from the old, using the old as templates.
The conditions are expected, but many parts of the interior, most notably the plumbing, is in excellent condition. Nice to see the authentic 50's wiring and fuses, etc. Some good quality stuff in there.

Thanks!! It feels so slow because I've only been able to work one day a week for the past couple of weeks. I have to finish a few other projects that were first on the to-do list, and then I can focus just on the Airstream. I can't wait!! It has been more pleasant than I thought-- so far (better not be jinx-ing myself). However, I am used to the confined and frustrating spaces on wood boats, so the Airstream is so much more roomy to work on!
When she gets inside, the work should really start to move along...

Well it's been a long while and I thought I'd better update. I went to the 4th 4Corners Unit Restoration Rally in NM this summer. All fired up and ready to go work on the AS. Got back and within two weeks I had her in the shop.

Then we had a couple of crisis happen to our business and basically everything came to a screeching halt. Two people had to be laid off, and there hasn't been much work coming in all summer. It's the worst we've seen for business since my husband has owned it. Lean mean summer.

So right now the AS is on hold. Not sure when I can get going again. A friend of mine has a folk-blues band and he wrote a song called "Someday Maybe". That about sums it up right now...

Hope everyone else is doing better with their projects! At least I can keep her safe and dry while she waits. &waits...

Rae

Hi Rae

Sorry to hear about the setbacks. At least it is still on the back burner and under cover until things clear up on the other end.

On the plus side this will give you more time to plan and acquire parts and supplies needed when the time allows. I think the time it takes for research and planning on these projects is triple the time spent actually working on the trailer. (At least the first one)

And you may decide to make some design and update changes in this downtime that will not haunt you later, so hang in there in the "mean time" and hope things clear up soon.

Gary

Needs a new home

I don't know what happened to my post, but anyway. It's been a few years and my life has changed Big Time. I live in FL full time. The husband and I are separated. I'm back in college getting a degree in Radiology... The AS is still in CT, but it looks like an easy 10 years before I would be able to work on her. So, I'm thinking she deserves better. If interested, contact me directly at sparklerae@gmail.com. Rae

Rae, so sorry. Life can turn on a dime. Hope you find a great buyer. I'm sure down the road you'll find yourself airstreaming again under better circumstances.

Sorry to hear about your changes, Rae. But good luck in the radiology program! My husband is an xray tech. Are you going for MD? I'll be thinkin' about ya.
